Dear Parents and Carers,
We are now well and truly settled back into term time. I have been delighted with the smart appearance of the children and the adherence to the uniform policy - thank you for supporting this. As you will see below, attendance is also mostly looking positive (come on Stag Class!) and if we can keep up these percentages for the rest of the year, the children will make wonderful academic progress!
Our new staff have also settled into school and have been warmly welcomed by the children. Ms Brainch has transformed the ‘Hive’ into a practical pastoral space and is working with children across the school supporting them academically as well as pastorally - and running the After School Club for three days per week. Miss Fisher has hit the ground running in Nursery and in Breakfast Club and her specialism with two year olds is evident! Mr Conybeare has already demonstrated his PE prowess and although he is supporting a new child, he is gradually getting to know the other children in the school too.
I would like to thank the PTFA, Mr Narramore and all the other helpers who made the Apple Day such a huge success - despite the, at times, torrential rain! Sadly, I only caught the end of it but everyone was very pleased with the amount of families who supported the event and the amount of apple juice that was made is astonishing! Bottles will be for sale at the PTFA stand at Bampton Fair later in October.
We launched our ‘Fruit Club’ last week and although take up was very low, I am hoping that this will become more popular. If you would like us to provide your child with a piece of fruit each day for break time (KS2) you can book that in the same way as you book clubs. I have been very impressed with the healthy lunchboxes that the children bring in with them. If you would like any ideas for variety, the NHS website is worth a visit! https://www.nhs.uk/healthier-families/recipes/healthier-lunchboxes/
This week we will also be welcoming PCSO Rachael Lake back into school. PCSO Lake has visited school a few times last year, speaking to the children about staying safe when they are out and about!
Last week I was out of school for two days. On Tuesday, Miss Johnstone and I attended a training session with ACE academy Trust, learning about their curriculum. We have 3 further sessions planned in, and I am very excited to see how we can adapt our curriculum to be more enquiry based and more engaging for our pupils as a result. .
I was also lucky enough to be invited on the Fox Class trip to Rosemoor to learn all about how plants grow. The children got to have an in-depth look at some of the gardens and the plants within them, collecting seeds and looking at the way they reproduce. The day went far too quickly but I was very impressed with what the children knew and what they learned during the day. Many thanks to Miss Halloway for organising the trip and to the volunteers who came with us!
This week we have the Exmoor Game School coming in to work with KS2 children. The children will be learning all about the importance of fostering a deeper connection with nature, sustainable food practices and developing life skills. On Friday, after Celebration Assembly, they will hold a tasting session for parents of the cooked products the children will have prepared.
Don’t forget it is your child’s individual (and sibling) school photo day on Friday so any children who usually have PE on Friday, need to come into school in school uniform please - trainers are fine with uniform on that day

Here are this week’s Times Table Rockstars, Superstars! We would like everyone to celebrate our top scorers and those who have made amazing efforts. All staff have been so impressed with children’s enthusiasm and determination to improve their times tables knowledge. If your child’s name is mentioned in the newsletter, then there is a 3 house point reward! Your child has a Times Table Rockstar login, which can be used at home too.
Good luck everyone!
Fieldmice and Hedgehog Class
We have had a super start to the new term, learning new routines and making new friends. Our enquiry, ‘Why am I amazing?’ has been lots of fun, with the children looking in mirrors to explore their faces and learning art techniques such as water colour painting. The children have had an initial attempt at creating a self portrait which produced some interesting results! In phonics we have learned 8 sounds already and the children have been very enthusiastic with their learning.
Squirrel Class
We have started our new enquiry ‘How are animals suited to their habitats?’ last week. This has enabled us to learn new vocabulary which we will be including in our writing this week. We have also been using talk tokens to take turns in small groups to discuss both our maths and literacy ideas. In maths we are focussing on place value. We are practicing counting forwards and backwards from 0-20 from any given number. We are also learning to use manipulatives such as Rekenreks, bead strings, numicon and ten frames to represent numbers from 0-20.
Fox Class
Have had a fantastic start to half term. We started off this half term looking at metacognition. The children had opportunities to think about their thinking in a variety of ways. From spaghetti bridges to multilink cubes it was brilliant to see the children getting stuck in. We are now looking at plants. Thinking about how they grow and why they are important to humans. The children really enjoyed their trip to Rosemoor Gardens and getting up close and personal with the plants. In maths the children have been looking, most recently, at numberlines.
Stag Class
have made a wonderful start to the new term and are starting to settle into their routines nicely. We spent just over a week learning our new school values and planning how we will show them throughout this year. We are now looking at light and exploring how it is created, how we can control it with electrical circuits and how our eyes sense and process it. By the end of next week we should be experts in all things vision!
Hedgehog
Billie in Hedgehog Class
Billie has made a fantastic start to the new term. She tries really hard with all her learning, particularly with her writing. She is always practising the skills she has been taught to make sure she is the best she can be. Well done Billie!
Evie in Hedgehog Class
It has been such a pleasure to welcome Evie to Bampton school. As well as super learning, Evie has lovely manners and has made lots of new friends. Evie is enthusiastic about her learning and I’m delighted with how she has started Reception. Well done Evie!
Squirrels
Eleanor in Squirrel Class
We have been so impressed with Eleanor’s attitude to learning in Year 2. Eleanor has been an excellent role model to our new Year 1s, always making positive choices and supporting her peers. It is lovely to see Eleanor’s confidence grow too and hear her contributing to class discussions and asking for help or clarification. Keep up the good work!
Kellan in Squirrel Class
We have been super impressed with how Kellan has quickly adapted to learning in Squirrel class and has risen to every challenge throughout the day. He has focussed so hard on his reading and writing and is writing extended pieces already at the start of the year. Keep up the fantastic work Kellan!
Foxes
Ellen in Fox class
For being an excellent role model to the year 3’s guiding them and helping them to get settled into Fox class. For showing motivation and determination in your work. Ellen has started year 4 really trying her hardest in everything that she does.
Otters
Sylvie in Otter Class
Sylvie is a superb student - always pushing herself to meet her own high standards, always striving to understand and apply any new learning that she encounters. She is kind, patient and a wonderful friend to all. Super job, Sylvie!
Ruben in Otter Class
For showing real motivation and determination, Ruben throws himself into every lesson and the growth he has shown as a learner and as an increasingly confident and lovely young man reflects this. He loves to read, which is showing in his written work and his vocabulary; he has a huge curiosity for the world around him and he is keen to share his enthusiasm, which I love! Ruben, you are a super part of our class and you make me proud every day!
Stags
Thomas in Stag Class
What a fantastic role model Thomas has been so far: he is showing exactly the attitude I expect of my Year 6s in class, demonstrating the right levels of effort in all of his work and being a kind helping hand for the new members of our class. I am so proud of how mature he is and cannot wait to see what this fantastic attitude will result in this year.
Cassie in Stag Class
Cassie has done a wonderful job of showing some of our school values already and we are only a couple of weeks into the year. She is putting so much effort into her work and is independently looking for areas where she thinks she can improve and asking for help with these if needed. She has also shown a huge amount of compassion by helping to clear some areas of the school so that the play equipment is ready for all. Thank you Cassie for everything you are doing!
Well done Everybody

The PTFA is made up of parents, carers, teachers, and friends of Bampton School with a shared interest in raising funds for equipment, resources, and activities to enhance the children’s learning experience.
We meet monthly to discuss how we as a school community can develop and improve school facilities and students’ opportunities, through planning fundraising events such as Bingo events, the Christmas Community Evening, Easter Extravaganza etc.
We welcome new and old members and are hoping for more support in the coming months.
If you can help in any way, or would like more information on the work we do then please contact [email protected] or look out for meeting dates on the school website, posters around the school or for notes in your child’s book bag.
